About 20 families residing in 'dhanis' (hamlets) on the outskirts of Dhansu and Sulkhani villages have migrated to safer places along with their cattle and household items after rainwater inundated their houses.

These families have taken shelter at their relatives' places in adjoining villages.

According to information, nearly 100 'dhanis' are affected in Sulkhani, Dhansu, Ghiray, Chainat and Bugana villages after rain lashed the region last week. Though many residents have been staying put despite being cut off from other places, nearly 60 inmates of 20 'dhanis' left after water entered their houses.

Meanwhile, Dhansu village sarpanch Manohar Lal said there were about 800 'dhanis' in the entire region, but only 100 were affected due to the rainwater.

"Now, the administrative officials have come to the village and are cooperating with the panchayat in managing the situation. But it's unfortunate that our village hardly gets any funds for development," she added.
