Vets seek Covid warrior status

Chandigarh, July 30

The Indian Veterinary Association has requested for the extension of Covid warrior status to veterinarians.

In a communication to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, New Delhi, Dr Chirantan Kadian, association chief, has submitted that veterinary services were also emergency services and require 24x7 intervention by the veterinarians in all conditions, whether it is law and order problem, extreme weather conditions, epidemics and natural disasters.

He said amid Covid, the veterinary services had been declared essential. He said during the delivery of services, veterinarians had the responsibility to safeguard their own health, their co-workers and animals.

Dr Kadian, who is also councillor, World Veterinary Association, said since Covid was still far from over, veterinarians were prone to infection and were always expected to be available for services under all circumstances, they need to be declared warriors by the Centre and a directive in this regard be issued to all state governments. He said all benefits be extended to veterinarians too. — TNS
