Patiala, August 17

The Patiala Municipal Corporation today inaugurated a bioremediation plant in the city.

With the project, the MC aims at segregating and clearing the garbage dumping site near the Sanauri Adda, which is a cause of concern for residents of the nearby colonies since years.

The project was recently allocated during a meeting of the Finance and contract Committee by the MC to a private company, Akanksha enterprises. It will be executed at a cost of Rs6.86 crore and completed in 16 months. Officials said the contractor would be required to segregate 1.75 metric tonnes of garbage dumped at the Sanauri Adda in 16 months. Meanwhile, the corporation intends to utilise its material recovery facilities (MRF) for the collection and segregation of garbage on a regular basis.

Residents of Tejbagh Colony, Jagdish Colony, Gopal Colony, Mathura Colony, Bishan Nagar and others are expected to benefit from the project that was inaugurated by Mayor Sanjeev Kumar.
