Patiala, August 17

Social distancing norms went for a toss when hundreds of members of the Punjab Pardesh Palledar Mazdoor Union, today, held a protest rally in the city againts the state government.

The protesting labourers staged a dharna near the Chief Minister residence for hours to press for their demands.

Moreover, some of the union members were even seen protesting without wearing a face mask.

The labourers — who started their protest march from Patiala Grain Market — tried to reach the residence of the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. However, they were stopped by the police near Polo Ground.

The protesting labourers said Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had promised in 2016 that he would abolish the 'thekedari' system if he came to power.

They said government had failed to fulfil its promise even after having been in power for two years.
