Panic as oxygen supply snapped at Covid ward

The oxygen supply at the Covid ward of Government Rajindra Hospital was reportedly interrupted on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. The matter came to the fore when the patients complained of breathlessness.

The hospital authorities denied any interruption in the oxygen supply. However, they admitted that there was an issue with the oxygen regulator, which was fixed in the morning.

Surbhi Malik, special incharge, Covid ward, said there was some issue with the regulator, which was resolved timely. "I am informed there was an issue with the regulator of oxygen, but it was resolved by experts timely. There was no interruption in the oxygen supply."

It has been learnt that a doctor on duty in the Covid ward had raised An alarm around 2 am, stating that patients were complaining of breathlessness due to reduced oxygen pressure.

Taking note of the sensitivity of the issue, Medical Education Minister OP Soni sought a report from the authorities on the issue on Tuesday.

Dr Paras Pandove, Medical Superintendent, Government Rajindra Hospital, said they had enough oxygen cylinders for the Covid ward.
