Road in pathetic condition

THE road connecting Amravati Enclave to DLF valley in Panchkuka is in a pathetic condition. The residents are suffering a lot of problems like waterlogging, potholes etc. I request the authorities to do the needful. —Pankaj Kamboj, DLF, Panchkula

Appoint retd HC judges as Info Commissioner

THE Right to Information Act was enacted 15 years ago to bring transparency in governance. But it is a matter of concern that information officers of Haryana are not following the RTI Act. Most public information officers neither give the information sought under the RTI Act nor deposit the penalty amount imposed by the State Information Commission in the treasury. The Haryana Government should recover the fine imposed by the Information Commission on public information officers across the state from 2006 to 2019 and punish such officers. To make the RTI Act effective in the state, the government should do two things. First, instead of retired IAS officers, only retired judges of the High Court or experienced lawyers should be appointed to the post of Information Commissioner. Second, it should be reviewed every three months that applicants are getting the information sought on time. —Shakti Singh, Karnal

Shocking to see Decline in gender ratio

IT is very shocking to observe that Haryana, which had witnessed manifold improvement in sex ratio for the past five years, has suffered a setback as the ratio has declined from 923 in 2019 to 914 till July this year. It is good to observe that Fatehabad has been on top in sex ratio at birth (SRB) at this stage. Efforts must be made to maintain it. —Subhash C Taneja, Gurugram
