Shopkeeper outrages cop’s modesty, held

A shopkeeper has been arrested by the local police for allegedly outraging the modesty of a woman constable and deterring her from discharging her duties at Behlana when she had gone to get shops closed on the District Magistrate's orders last night.

According to the police, the constable, who is posted at the Sector 31 police station and was deputed at the beat box in Behlana, was patrolling the market on foot to get the shops closed after 8 pm.

She found a shop dealing in cosmetics open and asked the shopkeeper, Gurpreet Singh, to close it.

She alleged that Gurpreet started arguing with her and manhandled her.

She informed senior police officials about the incident and the suspect was nabbed.

The police registered a case under Sections 332, 353, 354, 186 and 188 of the Indian Penal Code against the shopkeeper at the Sector 31 police station.
