Panchkula, September 17

A waste disposal plant in Sector 23, built at a cost of Rs38 crore, was inaugurated by Haryana Speaker and local MLA Gian Chand Gupta here today.

The plant has paved the way for the renovation work of the dumping ground, which has been a menace for local residents for the past 16 years.

"People choose their representatives with high expectations. It's the responsibility of the leader to fulfil their needs," said Gupta.

Officials of the Municipal Corporation (MC) said, "Fertiliser will be prepared from the bio-mining project by mining 2,000 to 3,000 tonnes of waste daily. Within a year, the entire waste of the dumping ground will be disposed of and a beautiful green park will be developed at the site."

"With this, residents of the trans-Ghaggar sectors will get relief from gases and smell emanating from the dumping ground for the past 16 years," they added.

The project, officials said, was on the priority list of Gian Chand Gupta.

He had been regularly reviewing progress of the project for its timely completion, they added.

Earlier on July 11 this year, Gupta visited the project site along with officials of the MC and asked the contractor to expedite the remaining work.

Municipal Commissioner Mahavir Singh, Joint Commissioner Sanyam Garg, Executive Officer Jarnail Singh, Tehsildar Punyadeep Sharma and BJP district president Ajay Sharma were also present on the occasion.
