Panchkula, September 14

People under 40 now make up a majority of the Covid-19 cases, according to an analysis of bulletins released by the Health Department between September 11 and 13.

Young adults aged between 21 and 40 accounted for 45.60 per cent (218 cases) of the total positive cases (478) reported from the district in the past three days, followed by those aged between 41 and 60 (149 cases).

According to health officials, the average age of a person testing positive for Covid-19 has fallen since March.

"Though we are seeing more infections among young people, elderly suffer more severe outcomes," they said.

Even numbers corroborate the fact. Of the six deaths reported from the district due to Covid-19 today, five people were aged 60 or above and almost all had underlying medical conditions.

Civil Surgeon Dr Jasjeet Kaur said: "Young people go out more. Some of them also remain careless as they are less likely to develop Covid-19 symptoms. However, they pass on the virus to the elders at home, which can be dangerous."

She urged young people to follow norms.
