350 officers to keep tabs on straw burning

Tribune News Service
Moga, October 1

To prevent stubble burning during the ongoing kharif season amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the Moga administration has appointed 330 nodal officers and 20 cluster officers in the villages where paddy stubble was being traditionally put to fire in the recent years.

Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Hans has appealed to farmers to refrain from burning paddy straw, especially keeping in view of the outbreak of Covid-19, which could aggravate the health issues.

Hans said the officers had been assigned the task to ensure that only harvester combines equipped with Super SMS system operated in the villages. They will also call each land owner on phone to impress upon them to ensure that no paddy straw was burnt on their land.
