70-year-old man shoots himself, admitted to PGI, Chandigarh

Chandigarh, October 19

A 70-year-old man reportedly tried to commit suicide by shooting himself on the head with his licensed .32 bore revolver at his house in Mani Majra. The victim is undergoing treatment at the PGI.

He has been identified as SS Phulka, a resident of Modern Housing Complex. He was staying with his wife. In the morning, his wife heard a gunshot around 5.30 am and rushed to his room where he found her husband in a pool of blood. The victim had shot himself on the right side of his temple.

He was rushed to the Civil Hospital, Panchkula, from where he was referred to the PGI. The police got information about the incident from the hospital in Panchkula.

A police official said the victim was depressed for the past nearly five years and was taking treatment from the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32. The police have initiated inquest proceedings into the matter at the Mani Majra police station. — TNS
