Cop arrested for taking Rs10,000 bribe in Palwal

Palwal, October 7

A team of the vigilance department today caught a head constable taking Rs 10,000 bribe from a villager for favouring the kin of an accused in the legal process.

A case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered. Sources said the accused, identified as Maan Singh (exemptee head constable) posted at the police post in Alwalpur village, had allegedly sought gratification of Rs 10,000 in lieu of producing the complainant's son, Lokesh Kumar in the court directly and without putting him in police custody in connection with an FIR registered under sections 323 and 506 of the IPC and sections 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act recently.

The complainant, identified as Jogender, had also been assured of help in getting bail by the accused cop, it is claimed. The accused was caught red-handed during a raid conducted by the state vigilance bureau in the presence of Duty Magistrate Rohtash, tehsildar, Palwal. — TNS
