PUTA continues protest outside Punjabi University VC’s office

Patiala, October 14

The Punjabi University Teachers' Association (PUTA) is has been holding a protest outside the Vice-Chancellor's office for the past three days. Association members said the university had failed to pay their salaries and fulfil other demands.

The PUTA president, Dr Nishan Singh Deol, said legitimate demands of teachers were not being met by the university administration.

"The university administration has been apprised many times about demands. The association will intensify its protest if the university does not fulfil its demands," he added.

Association members said the university had failed to deposit deductions from their salaries in their respective GPF and NPS accounts for the past four months.

"This is violation of service rules and is also leading to losses for university employees," said Dr Avneet Pal Singh.

PUTA members said their demands include announcement of the schedule for CAS promotions of teachers, the Vice-Chancellor (VC) should attend his office on a regular basis and the university should implement the decision of allowing headship with rotation to assistant professors, who had eight years experience.
