Two Ambala men held for betting on IPL match

The Ambala police have arrested two men for allegedly betting on an IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab last night.

The suspects have been identified as Vikas Garg, and Nishant, both residents of Ambala Cantonment.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the CIA-2 unit, Ambala, conducted a raid on a rented accommodation in Mahesh Nagar around 10 pm yesterday and arrested both suspects. The police recovered a laptop, five mobile phones, a TV set, and Rs9,000 from their possession.

The suspects were produced before a court, which sent them to one-day police remand. A case was registered against the duo under Sections 3, 4 and 13-A of the Public Gambling Act and Sections 420 and 120-B of IPC at the Mahesh Nagar police station.

CIA-2 in-charge Subhash said: "We got a tip-off that Vikas and Nishant are involved in betting on IPL matches, following which a raid was conducted. The suspects were produced before a court, which sent them to one-day police remand. They were active for the past 10 days. Involvement of five more persons and a bookie, Sukhi Chandigarh, had come to fore. They will also be arrested soon."
