Mohali, November 25

The BJP has become increasingly active in Punjab after the end of its 24-year-old political alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). The party is likely to contest all seats in the MC elections.

The BJP has intensified its activities in Mohali city and is all set to contest the MC elections on its own while the SAD is yet to launch its activities in this regard. It appears that the Akali Dal is on the back foot.

After the party's victory in the Bihar Assembly elections and byelections in other states, the BJP leaders are in high spirits.

While the BJP is trying its best to woo the leaders of other parties to join the saffron party, it has stepped up its activities in view of the coming Assembly elections in other states of the country, especially in West Bengal.

As far as Punjab is concerned, more than one year's time is to go for the Assembly elections and the BJP has started preparing itself for the same. According to sources, the party leaders are of the opinion that the party is strong in the Majha and Doaba belts of the state and even though the party was weak in the Malwa region, which is considered a stronghold of the SAD, the party was working hard to strengthen its position there.

Meanwhile, the BJP is preparing to field candidates on all 50 seats in the Mohali MC elections likely to be held in January. In the previous MC elections, the BJP had contested 17 seats, of which it had won six seats.
