Morcha takes out silent march at Panjab University

Chandigarh: A silent march was organised on behalf of the Sanyukt Morcha at Panjab University in which many students and alumni participated. The participants demanded new reforms to free the university of the party politics of the Senate. A memorandum to the Vice President of India, who is Chancellor of the university, was also submitted.

"In coming time, whatever the administrative form or system should be established, the position of elected heads of teachers union, students union and employees union should be ensured so that there is genuine democracy in the university," said member of the Bar Council and former student leader Rajat Gautam.

Guruparvez Shella, former head of the University Student Council, also alleged that the Senate had become a means to appease some leaders rather than uplifting the university's standards. TNS
