Syndicate members to meet today

Chandigarh, November 22

Panjab University Syndicate members have decided to hold a meeting tomorrow to discuss various issues.

However, the meeting has not officially been called by the PU Registrar or Vice-Chancellor. According to the PU Calendar, the Syndicate meetings are to be convened by the Registrar as directed by the Vice-Chancellor or as decided by the Syndicate.

Awaiting a meeting since July, members of the Syndicate, whose term end next month, had protested on the campus demanding immediate conduct of the Senate polls and a Syndicate meeting.

Notably, the Vice-Chancellor had earlier called for an online emergency meeting twice in September, but members had refused to attend it and instead demanded a physical meeting.

The members have been alleging that the Vice-Chancellor is using the powers of the syndicate, but does not consult its members. "The Senate elections have been withheld and there has been no meeting of the Syndicate. The authorities should have conducted it in a phased manner. In tomorrow's meeting, we will discuss taking things further," said a member. — TNS
