Farmer cremated with ‘honours’ in Bathinda

Tribune News Service

Bathinda, December 9

Lakhbir Singh, a farmer who had died during the ongoing agitation at the Tikri border, was cremated at his native Laleana village, Talwandi Sabo, today.

BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) members termed his demise a "sacrifice" for the just demands of farmers and vouched that they would not let it go waste and continue to protest against the Central Government's farm laws in Delhi.

Farm union members and residents of many villages gathered for the cremation of the deceased farmer.

Bhinder Singh, BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) block president, said, "The body of Lakhbir was brought to Laleana village from Rohtak on Wednesday evening and cremated with honours. Lakhbir had died on December 3 but his cremation got delayed as the administration was not agreeing with the family members over their demand of compensation and a government job to the next of the kin of the deceased. On Monday evening, the administration gave a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased as compensation. On Tuesday, owing

to a bandh call, the body could not be shifted to Bathinda."
