Flute artiste gets Bismillah Khan Award

Patiala, January 28

Flute player Ustad Dr Mujtaba Hussain has been awarded the prestigious Bismillah Khan award by the Government of Bihar for year 2019-20.

Dr Hussain is associated with the Department of Dance, Punjabi University. He has already been awarded 'Bansuri Ratna' by the university. His father Ustad Peer Bakhsh was a 'shehnai' maestro of Bihar while his uncle Ustad Fahimullah Khan was a renowned flute player. Dr Hussain learnt the fine art from these stalwarts.

He said: "The award is very dear to me as I hail from Bihar. It is gratifying that the Bihar Government has acknowledged my contribution to music. This award will motivate me to do better as a musician and as a teacher." — TNS
