Mohali, January 24

Residents came out of their houses in big numbers to cheer for the farmers going on their tractor-trailers to participate in the "tractor parade" in Delhi on January 26.

The elderly, housewives and children, carrying flags, stood outside their houses alongside the national highway in parts of the district. They raised slogans in support of the farmers' agitation against the three farm laws.

This weekend has seen an increased number of tractors and cars heading towards the protest site on Singhu border.

In her seventies, Randhir Kaur of Sante Majra village makes it a point to cheer the cavalcade heading towards Delhi in the mornings and evening. ''It is a matter of life and death for farmers. If we will not support our brothers, who else will,'' she said. The elderly woman lives near the main highway and places her chair outside her verandah near the road and also keeps a watch on enthusiastic children waving flags to the farmers.

A house maker, Rubinder Kaur, 42, said: "We will do whatever we can in our small way to show our support."
