Now, CTU buses to run at full capacity

Chandigarh, January 25

The UT Transport Department has decided to run buses to the full seating capacity.

In a notification, the department has stated that it has been noticed that the transport departments of the adjoining states of Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh were operating their buses with no restrictions of seating capacity on inter-state as well as intra-state routes. Owing to limitation of passenger seating capacity, especially in long-route buses, the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) was incurring heavy losses.

"Now, it has been decided that inter-state as well as intra-state buses will be allowed to operate with full seating capacity by following preventive measures such as wearing of mask by passengers, maintain social distancing, carrying out thermal scanning and sanitisation of buses," says the notification.

On the intra-city or local routes being operated by the CTU, the fare would be charged as per fare notification issued on January 15, 2020, instead of the flat rates being charged now. — TNS
