Sarthak sails into quarterfinals

Top seed Sarthak Gandhi sailed into boys’ U-18 quarterfinals by defeating Rakshit Dhankar 8-5 on the opening day of the CLTA-AITA Championship Series (CS-3) Tennis Tournament in Sector 10 here today.

Second seed Aryan Thakur also made his way to the quarters by registering a one-sided 8-0 win over Sankalp Satyannair and third seed Navya Verma from Punjab overpowered local contender Lakshya Chugh 8-4. Fourth seed Arihant outplayed Punjab’s Tanav Gupta 8-0, whereas fifth seed Punjab’s Sarthak Arora went down 4-8 against Haryana’s Upnishad Bhardwaj. Sixth seed Chandigarh’s Amish Bansal also moved into the next round by defeating Parmarth Kaushik 8-4 and, another local contender, seventh seed Aditya Chauhan defeated Kesav Dangi 8-2. Anirudh Sangra logged a 8-1 win over Haryana’s Aryan Jolly.

Harleen also advances to quarters

In the girls’ U-18 category, top seed Harleen Kaur Dhanda from Punjab logged an easy 8-0 win over Chandigarh’s Khushleen Kaur to move into the quarterfinals. Haryana’s Saanvi Garg stunned second seed Aditi Singh by recording an 8-6 victory, while third seed Radhika Vasudeva ousted Milli Pandit 8-1. Fourth seed Vanya Arora easily overpowered Bhumi Kakkar 8-4 and fifth seed Riya Kaushik outplayed Haryana’s Bhumika Pareek 8-4. Sixth seed Ananya Dogra also moved into the next round by recording 8-3 victory over Jyotsana Yadav, whereas eighth seed Mrinalini Sharma ousted Punjab’s Soumya Hooda 8-0. In the last pre-quarterfinal, Shriya Singh defeated seventh seed Simar Atwal 8-5.
