Section 144 imposed, security beefed up

In view of a possible disruption by protesting farmers and other safety concerns during the Republic Day celebrations tomorrow, Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed in the 1-km radius of the Parade Ground, Sector 5, where Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will hoist the national flag.

"There is a likelihood of causing tension, annoyance, obstruction or injury to persons or risk or danger to human life and property, disturbance of public peace and tranquillity within the territorial limits of Panchkula district by some agitators, miscreants and anti-social elements by blocking roads, passages on account of the BKU and other kisan unions in the Republic Day celebrations at Parade Ground, Sector 5," says DCP Mohit Kumar Handa in a notice.

Any person found violating the order will be booked under Section 188, IPC.

All shopping markets, cinema halls, coaching centres and other institutes located in the 1-km range of the venue will also remain closed till 1 pm tomorrow.

At least 21 special check posts have been set up at important roundabouts and light points.

A total of 1,100 police officials will be deployed during the celebrations.

Traffic advisory

All roads, except from Sector 4/5 traffic light point and Sector 9/10 traffic light point, to the Parade Ground will be closed to traffic. Moreover, only those with valid passes and invitation will be allowed to take these two routes.
