Woman held for duping four of Rs 65.50 lakh

Chandigarh, January 25

The UT police have arrested the owner of a visa consultancy firm for duping four persons to the tune of Rs65.50 lakh on the pretext of providing visa.

The suspect has been identified as Rashmi Negi, owner of World Wide Services, Sector 34. She was produced before a court today, which sent her to four-day police remand.

One of the complainants, Vikas Kumar of Fatehabad district, reported that he owns an IELTS institute. He allegedly gave Rs25 lakh to the suspect to arrange visitor visas for two of his students. The suspect provided him fake visas.

In another complaint, Randeep Singh of Kurukshetra district reported that he had paid Rs15.50 lakh to the suspect for visitor visa for him and his wife in 2019. However, the suspect provided them fake visas.

Sumant Jhamb of Ferozpur, Punjab, was also duped of Rs15 lakh and Manish Kumar of Narwana, Haryana, was duped of Rs10 lakh. — TNS
