Chandigarh, February 9

Various sub-committees will place their recommendations before the UT Administrator’s Advisory Council during its meeting here tomorrow.

UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore, Chairman of the council, had recently directed the Home Department to call a meeting of the council to discuss various issues of the city. The council advises the UT Administration on developmental issues and policy matters.

The council has 10 standing committees such as on environment, health, urban planning and transport.

Apart from taking up the recommendations of the sub-committees for discussion, the DGP will give a presentation on law and order and the Chief Engineer on various development projects at the meeting, said Manoj Parida, UT Adviser.

Prominent residents of the city, including present and former Lok Sabha members, the Mayor and immediate former Mayor, president of the Beopar Mandal, president of the Federation of Sector Welfare Associations, president of the CII, Northern Region, and the chairman, CRAWFED, are members of the council.

Parida said the sub-committees would make presentations on urban planning, parking, transport and change of land use.

“Having the Administrator’s Advisory Council is a novel concept. It can be further reinforced by having a few floating invitees and suggestion givers, depending upon the agenda items to be taken up from time to time. There is a need for bringing a holistic need-based change policy for allowing settlement of various issues once for all,” said Vinod Vashisht, convener, City Forum of Residents Welfare Organisations.

One of the agenda items is regarding allowing nursing homes to be opened in residential areas.
