Cops step up security

Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, February 5

With the protesting farmers announcing "chakka jam" for three hours on Saturday, the Haryana Police have stepped up security across the state.

SKM guidelines

  • Only national and state highways across the country will be blocked from noon to 3 pm
  • Emergency and essential services like ambulance and school bus etc will not be stopped
  • 'Chakka jam' will remain non-violent. Protesters have been asked not to indulge in any conflict with officials or citizens.
  • No 'chakka jam' programme inside Delhi
  • All roads leading to Delhi will remain open except for those where farmers are already protesting
  • The 'chakka jam' programme will conclude at 3 pm by blowing vehicles' horns for 1 minute continuously

In view of violence in Delhi during the tractor march on January 26, senior police officers had been asked to personally supervise security and traffic arrangements at vital junctions and roads and district police chiefs directed to ensure deployment of adequate personnel, according to a communication from the DGP.

"In view of the incidents in Delhi on January 26, some anti-social elements and aggressive youth creating law and order problems cannot be ruled out," read the communication.

"It is assessed that as part of the protest on February 6, protesting farmers may attempt blockade of important highways and interior roads," it said, asking the police to ensure necessary security.
